The art of going further
We specialise in the design and development of advanced and sustainable hospitals and healthcare facilities. Our work is the result of an intense process of research and innovation that aims to provide the best solutions for our clients, citizens and the environment.
The drive for efficiency, continuous improvement, social responsibility and the added value offered by our advanced healthcare projects have made us a benchmark consultancy in the sector.
This is our story.
The first steps
Patricio Martínez and Maximià Torruella joined forces in 2001 with the aim of participating in various architectural competitions. The merger brought good results and they both left the offices where they were working to embark on a new project together: ARQUITECTURA GB8. The team added two new professionals and for the next five years they continuously submitted projects to competitions.
26 competitions won and 8 second prizes
In 2006, PMMT ARCHITECTURE was founded. The gradual integration of new professionals to the team allowed them to participate in more architectural competitions. Project by project, innovation was gaining ground in the studio. This period ended positively with 26 public works competitions won and 8 second prizes.
Specialisation + Innovation, the final push
Due to the economic downturn in 2011, the number of public tenders plummeted and led PMMT to rethink its business strategy. A trip to León to study the architectural work of Luis Moreno Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón Álvarez revealed a new path for the team: a firm commitment to innovation as an independent process and to firmly concentrate in the area in which it specialises: healthcare architecture.
Parametric Hospital, the first major architectural challenge
In 2012, PMMT developed its first research project: the parametric designed hospital. PMMT built the first Parametric Hospital in Puyo, Ecuador. A great architectural challenge that became an international benchmark.
Buildings on three continents
Puyo Hospital won the FAD International Architecture Award and the IX Ibero-American Architecture and Urbanism Biennial Award in 2014. This recognition boosted PMMT’s international activity, which has now designed and built healthcare projects on three continents; most notably, hospitals in Ecuador, Angola and Equatorial Guinea.
In-house patents
PMMT's research projects have resulted in a patent for the Parametric Hospital and two registered trademarks for Clear Code Architecture® and Friendly Materials® innovations.
Environmental management system
In 2023, PMMT received ISO 14001:2015 certification as a result of the organisation's efforts to reduce environmental impacts and optimise resource management within the company. At the same time, it renewed the 9001:2015 certification at the Barcelona headquarters and received one for PMMT Madrid for the first time.
Quality and continuous improvement
PMMT's commitment to quality and continuous improvement in the design of healthcare infrastructures and other services provided meant it received ISO 9001:2015 certification in 2019 and its corresponding renewal in 2022. This certification is the standard Quality Management System model recognised in all sectors of activity on an international level. In addition, the Lean methodology is used for managing the organisation's processes.
Shared talents
PMMT is committed to a working model based on the amount of talents and ideas, where knowledge emerges from the participation of everyone on the team. Without hierarchies, processes become more efficient, everyone's involvement increases and the result is a network of ideas with unique added value.
