SPECIALTY CENTER AND MAJOR OUTPATIENT SURGERY HOSPITAL ADORACIÓN SÁENZ
Logroño, La Rioja (Spain)
The Specialty Center and Major Outpatient Surgery Hospital Adoración Sáenz project, winner of the competition organized by the Rioja Health Service, perfectly addresses the functional needs and the urban requirement to regenerate this part of the city.
The plot where the hospital is located features a plaza, to which it opens through a pergola. All its facades are permeable on the ground floor, allowing for a connection with the city on all four sides, with entrances designated for different medical uses on each one. From the south entrance of the plaza, there is access to the Ophthalmology consultations and the Pain Unit. The east entrance, through a service road, provides emergency access to the operating rooms.
Additionally, the hospital is designed under the principles of flexibility and versatility, allowing for future adaptations to changes within the healthcare sector. A grid is proposed with dimensions carefully studied to accommodate any type of space from the proposed functional program, and courtyards are introduced to provide natural light to all areas. This not only saves energy but also helps with orientation inside the building, generating views beyond the linear corridors.
The result is a hospital whose functional plan integrates perfectly into the urban morphology, becoming a vital part of the city.
