Hospital Clínic Emergency Department
Barcelona (Spain)
The building is located within the hospital grounds of Hospital Clínic in the Eixample district of Barcelona and combines medical and teaching uses (Faculty of Medicine). The grounds are made up of a series of pavilions connected by large corridors that surround the faculty. Between the two buildings, Faculty and Hospital, we find the isolated 8-storey building where the emergency department is found, which is joined as an extension to the historic building. The building houses the entire emergency department of the Hospital, which is a peculiar emergency department as it's a high-rise building. On floors 2, 3 and 4 are the examination areas, separated by levels of severity. The project involves changing the use of the third floor from level 4-5 (less serious) to level 2 (more serious). Level two will consist of a large observation area with 18 cubicles (two of which are double) and their services: storerooms, toilets, controls, lounge area, cleaning, supervision office and facilities.
