MULTI-PURPOSE HOSPITAL BUILDING AT THE ARNAU DE VILANOVA UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Lleida (Spain)
The MULTI-PURPOSE HOSPITAL BUILDING of the ARNAU DE VILANOVA UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL is a satellite building that extends the current infrastructure of the Lleida hospital. It has been developed for special contingencies and supports the existing healthcare network, as it reinforces the number of ICU beds available in times of crisis such as COVID-19. Its design is efficient from a medical operational point of view, compact, flexible and scalable and responds to the current functional needs of Arnau de Vilanova.
The new modular and parameterised building consists of a total of 60 industrialised modules (12 per floor) measuring 5m x 15m. It is located in the area of the open-air car park, at a right angle to the existing hospital and oriented from north to south. The two buildings are separated by Av. del Alcalde Rovira Roure and to optimise the connection between them there is a paved crossing at street level. In addition, a 50-metre-long modular structure bridge was built to facilitate the movement of medical staff between the two buildings. The ground floor is used for triage services, and the three intensive care floors can be used as an emergency ICU or as a conventional ICU, providing patients with greater privacy. The change from one configuration to another can be made in just 24 hours without affecting structural elements or installations.
This project is based on the I-COVID PMMT COMPACT HOSPITAL model: a research project carried out as a result of the global pandemic experienced in 2020.
