MULTI-PURPOSE HOSPITAL BUILDING IN PARC SANITARI PERE VIRGILI / VALL D'HEBRON HOSPITAL
Barcelona (Spain)
The MULTI-PURPOSE HOSPITAL BUILDING of PARC SANITARI PERE VIRGILI / VALL D'HEBRON HOSPITAL is a satellite building that extends the current infrastructure of Parc Sanitari in Barcelona and built at the beginning of 2021. It has been developed for special contingencies and enables it to support the existing healthcare system, reinforcing the number of ICU beds available in times of crisis such as the Covid-19 crisis. Its design is efficient from the medical operational point of view, compact, flexible and scalable and responds to the current functional needs of the Parc Sanitari Pere Virgili.
It is a parameterised building, of modular construction and manufactured off-site. It is made up of a total of 52 industrialised modules (13 per floor) measuring 4.98m x 15m. The appearance of this new building, placed alongside Esteve Terradas street, aims to affect the environment as little as possible. Each ICU floor has capacity for 24 to 36 beds, occupying an area of 972m2. It has a ground floor for triage services, plus three intensive care floors that can function as an emergency ICU or as a conventional ICU, providing patients with greater privacy. The change from one configuration to another can be made in just 24 hours without affecting structural elements or installations.
This project is based on the I-COVID PMMT COMPACT HOSPITAL model: a research project in the wake of the global pandemic in 2020.
