RISE Center
Sant Boi de Llobregat (Spain)
The project consists of the refurbishment and renovation of the current Dr. Pujadas Building located in the Sant Joan de Déu Health Park, in the town of Sant Boi. The aim of the project is to establish a new Centre de Recerca i Innovació en Salut Emocional del Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu (RISE Center).
The aim of our intervention is to adapt the building to the new needs at a functional level, but also to solve the current problems of the building in terms of insulation, both thermal and acoustic, as well as improving its relationship with its surroundings. Likewise, an innovative image is sought, in dialogue with the new use of the building.
Taking advantage of the fact that the building has two entrances, one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor, from streets at different heights, we propose to generate a transversal circulation axis that connects them. This allows us to generate an internal flow of circulation, linking the gardens to the northeast with the Social Centre, located to the southwest. In the interior of the building, to reinforce this idea of a backbone, the ground and first floor receptions and all the main relationship and circulation spaces are linked by means of a triple open space in the form of an atrium. This large hall will become a place for exchange and leisure for the users of the centre, inviting the rest of the Park to participate.
The façade has also been modified to meet the needs of thermal insulation. A new integrating envelope is proposed, opting for a solution that allows a uniform volumetry and image of the building as a whole, but at the same time allowing a suitable relationship with the surroundings.
The windows have been enlarged, allowing a greater visual relationship with the exterior and improving the natural light in all the interior spaces. Ceramic was chosen as the final finishing material, as it's a natural material that fits in with the environment of the Park: exterior skin in Flexbrik
In general, "natural" materials such as wood and ceramics, local products and variable tones, as well as the use of vegetation in the courtyards seek to humanise the spaces and establish a dialogue with the environment. The Sanitary Park is characterised by an abundance of vegetation, as well as historical buildings with exposed brickwork and more modern buildings in white and beige tones.
