KUITO PARAMETRIC HOSPITAL
Kuito (Angola)
The new hospital responds to the necessity to provide the Bié region's population with a modern, technological and highly efficient hospital with a capacity of 180 beds. Thus, a modular and functional type of architecture was proposed, with a structural grid that guarantees maximum flexibility of operation, allowing the hospital to adapt in the future to the advances that may be introduced in the health and hospital sector, without affecting its smooth operation and current configuration.
The strategic position of the building on the site allows the hospital to expand very easily. The medical housing, which completes the hospital's programme, is intentionally located at the opposite end of the site to the hospital to allow more rest for the professionals working in the infrastructure. The layout of the roads and parking areas ensures easy and convenient access to the building from the different areas of the site.
Based on this idea of a modular building a contemporary hospital was designed, with the understanding that for it to be so it must incorporate all the attributes from its base. Avoiding geometric approaches, the building integrates with the surrounding environment through the use of attributes of the indigenous construction tradition.
