Outpatient Building at the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital
Lleida (Spain)
The scope of the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital has undergone a progressive transformation to adapt to the demands generated by economic, social, and cultural changes. Over the years, the extent of the new hospital has remained practically unchanged, limited since its initial construction in 1958.
The spaces comprising the outpatient area of the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital feature an infrastructure design that is not very comfortable or accessible for citizens due to its spontaneous creation and the age of the building. The size of the outpatient clinics (CCEE) and offices was constrained by the utilization of spaces generated or freed up within the hospital building.
To address these deficiencies, CatSalut launched a competition for the construction of an independent building intended for outpatient consultations, though connected to the rest of the hospital. For this purpose, they hired PMMT to develop a Preliminary Project to serve as the basis for the design and construction competition of the new CCEE building, considering all preexisting conditions and the requirements of the hospital and CatSalut.
The preliminary project serves as the basis for the competition, in which PMMT also participated. The proposal was ranked second and the project was not constructed, but the work done prior to the competition was fundamental for the development of the winning project.
