Barcelona City Council's psychotherapy service for children, adolescents and families
BARCELONA (Spain)
The BARCELONA CITY COUNCIL’S PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICE FOR CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND FAMILIES is located on the ground floor at 2 Plaza de Tetuán in Barcelona. The typology of the premises is typical of buildings in the Eixample district, with a considerable depth and two main entrances facing the street, which are also the only source of natural light and ventilation in the whole space.
The premises, with a surface area of approximately 550 m2, houses the Child and Adolescent Care Team (EAIA) of l'Eixample Dret of Barcelona City Council. Aware that the original architecture was not supporting the service in its social work, we sought to reform it to make it a healthy, universally accessible and humanised space to promote the wellbeing of the staff and the people they serve.
For this purpose, construction materials were selected to ensure high levels of health and indoor air quality, according to the Friendly Materials® method. Humanised design strategies were also integrated, according to the principles of Architectural Humanisation.
