SIGNAGE AND WAYFINDING PROJECT AT SANT JOAN DE DÉU HOSPITAL
Barcelona (Spain)
With the objective of guaranteeing the accurate orientation of any user from the main entrances to the consulting rooms within health complex, the Signage and Wayfinding project of Sant Joan de Déu Hospital takes into account all the needs that people may experience in the use of this complex infrastructure of large dimensions, which has undergone various modifications over time.
To do this, an analysis is first carried out of the different routes and elements of the current signage system that direct and inform us throughout the complex, taking into account the visual and communicative code that characterises them. Subsequently, a series of improvements are proposed to make the system easy to understand for everyone. The analysis and implementation of universal design in this project is carried out following the criteria established by the Clear Code Architecture®.
The final result is a proposal for unified signage located at strategic points in the space to be easily detected. Landmarks, directories, directional and confirmation of destination follow design criteria that facilitate understanding, legibility and visibility, incorporating aspects such as current location on raised-relief maps, Braille, information in three languages, macro-characters, colour contrasts between background and characters, typography and pictograms that are easy to read for everyone... among other features.
