UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY CONSULTANCY FOR HUERTO SAN AGUSTIN SQUARE
Quito (Ecuador)
With the aim of achieving high levels of universal accessibility in the design of the Huerto de San Agustín Square in Quito (Ecuador), in 2015 the Jaramillo Van Sluys team commissioned a Clear Code Architecture® consultancy on the project in the executive phase.
For the consultancy PMMT analysed and evaluated the level of Universal Accessibility of every element that makes up the square (ramps, stairs, alcoves, street furniture, slopes, pedestrian walkways, curbs, handrails, rest areas...), as well as its surrounding urban environment (crossings and pedestrian crossings, signage and wayfinding systems...). We then made various graphic proposals to improve this level, both at the general level of the space and specific to each CCA group, with special emphasis on detailing the optimal routes for people with visual impairment and wheelchair users. Following these recommendations, the Jaramillo Van Sluys team defined the strategy for the integration of the accepted recommendations in the project.
