UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY CONSULTANCY FOR STREETS IN ANDORRA
Andorra la Vella (Andorra)
PMMT conducted, using the Clear Code Architecture® method, several universal accessibility consultancies for various streets in Andorra, located in the town centre of Escaldes-Engordany.
The first was in 2016, when we assessed the level of universal accessibility of Avinguda Carlemany, with the aim of defining the necessary measures of improvement to ensure that everyone could use this public main road with the same conditions. To achieve this, each element that makes up the design of the street was analysed for each CCA group, and a detailed report was drawn up that included the strengths and various recommendations for improvement. In the second phase, two graphic proposals were made that materialised these recommendations, one prioritising pedestrian traffic and the other favouring road traffic. In both proposals, both partial and global accessibility levels were increased.
The second was carried out in 2021, Avinguda de Fener. Escaldes-Engordany Town Council wanted to apply the Clear Code universal accessibility parameters to the landscaping project proposed by the Environment and Town Planning departments for this street. To do this, an analysis was first carried out of both the street and urban elements (benches, tree surrounds and litter bins), as well as the current state of the street in terms of accessibility. Subsequently, a graphic proposal was made, with the aim of improving both the usability of these urban elements and the universal accessibility of the street through a new proposal for their distribution along the urban axis.
