UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY CONSULTANCY FOR STREETS IN MADRID
Madrid (Spain)
Following the analysis of how universally accessible the main roads are in Barcelona, in 2016 two streets in Madrid were analysed: Calle Diego de León and Calle Serrano. In both streets, the elements that make up their urban design were analysed and evaluated: pedestrian walkways, pedestrian crossings and bicycle lanes, with the aim of improving their level of universal accessibility.
To do so, a wide range of data was collected related to the characteristics of urban elements such as surrounding trees, grilles, benches and bus stops; the dimensions and characteristics of the different traffic strips and rest areas, the signage system in the streets, among other aspects. Subsequently, the level of universal accessibility of each of the elements that make up the design of both streets was evaluated for each of the CCA groups, as well as the existing overall level of accessibility.
