University of the Balearic Islands Postgraduate Centre

The project was to build the new headquarters of the postgraduate centre of the University of Mallorca, Spain. The building is organised over three floors and houses lecture halls, academic research laboratories, an administration area and an area for events and congresses. The challenge was to think of a friendly intervention with a Mediterranean character, which enhances the value of the surrounding outdoor space, with suitable spaces for different activities and with a wealth of relationships in fluid spaces, favouring mobility and the open mindedness of the education provided for university students. There is an attitude of environmental concern from the very start, an attitude of respect for the site, a place with its own identity, with Mediterranean light and vegetation. There is natural access to the centre, forming part of the usual route of the Campus, the idea is to extend the existing paths and turn the corridors into walkways.
