Barcelona headquarters of the Col·legi d'Enginyers de Camins, Canals i Ports de Catalunya
Barcelona (Spain)
The renovation of the Barcelona headquarters of the Col·legi d'Enginyers de Camins, Canals i Ports de Catalunya was born with the vocation of updating the existing building, with the aim of becoming a reference point for members and companies in the sector, as well as being a dynamic and participative meeting point.
The original building, constructed in the 1930s, is a classic detached single-family house of the period, with a garden, balustrades and windows with wooden shutters. Subsequently, in the 1990s, it was extended with a side section of facing brick and a basement where the assembly hall was located.
PMMT's proposal respects the image of the original building, which is deeply rooted in the neighbourhood, and focuses on opening up the façades and the garden as much as possible, creating an open and friendly institutional image with the surroundings.
The entire intervention is based on sustainability criteria, both from an energy point of view and in terms of materials and their carbon footprint. Special emphasis is placed on passive strategies that reduce energy demand: a large ceramic lattice that provides solar protection and gives identity to the façade, automated cross ventilation for night-time cooling and improved thermal insulation. In addition, a domotic system will be implemented to make the most of the climatic conditions to achieve the comfort temperature.
The spaces are designed in a flexible way to adapt to different uses, from formal and informal meetings, in large or small formats, to concentration spaces for working or resting. They will be equipped with the necessary technology to ensure functionality and comfort.
