PADRE DAMIÁN OFFICES
Madrid (Spain)
The project deals with the design of a new administrative building located in Calle Padre Damián in Madrid. The morphology of the building is obtained by deforming the island model with an interior courtyard (resulting from the characteristics of the triangular plot) to generate a helix block that shares a large urban space with the city. The building rises vertically with interspersing office floors along with garden floors, thus multiplying the building's green spaces.
In order to maximise energy savings, a façade of ceramic louvres is proposed, given the high thermal properties of this material. These slats are oriented differently on each of the building's façades. The orientation is partly the result of the need for protection from the sun from the south and west, and partly the desire to open up to the best views of the city while avoiding views between the different wings of the building. The local origin of the ceramic and its recyclability make it a sustainable material that generates a minimal CO2 footprint.
On a façade bay of 810 cm, a metric multiple of 30 is established which adapts perfectly not only to the optimal dimensions of meeting rooms, workrooms and offices, but also to the typical modulation of office furniture.
