UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY CONSULTANCY FOR ESCOLA PIA
GRANOLLERS (Spain)
In order to identify areas for improvement in relation to universal accessibility of the infrastructures at Escola Pia de Catalunya nursery and primary school in Granollers, the Escola Pia de Catalunya management team commissioned an analysis and evaluation using the Clear Code Architecture® method.
The six floors of the building were analysed, made up of common spaces (urbanisation of access, entrances, receptions, vertical and horizontal communication cores, bathrooms and dining rooms), student spaces (classrooms, toilets, multi-purpose rooms and music rooms) and staff spaces (kitchen, storerooms, meeting rooms, offices and changing rooms). Each space was evaluated for each CCA group, taking into account the needs for each of those spaces. Subsequently, a series of recommendations were made for each group, and in general, in order to increase the level of accessibility both globally and partially.
At the same time, the Escola Pia management team was carrying out the executive project for the extension and refurbishment of the building, which PMMT also analysed and evaluated with the aim of proposing a series of suggestions to improve the initial design. With these proposals in hand, the drafting team defined the strategy for the integration of the changes in the renovation project.
